Look, we're not your typical architecture firm that throws around fancy jargon to sound impressive. We're a bunch of designers, planners, and honestly – dreamers who got tired of seeing the same cookie-cutter buildings pop up everywhere.
"Every project tells a story – we just make sure it's one worth telling."
Started back in 2012 with just three of us working out of a cramped office in Gastown, sketching ideas on napkins between terrible coffee runs. Fast forward to now, and we've grown into something we're genuinely proud of – a studio that doesn't compromise on sustainability or style.
We've worked on everything from tiny residential renovations to massive urban development projects, and honestly? The small projects teach us just as much as the big ones. Maybe even more.
Three architects walk into a coffee shop... sounds like the start of a bad joke, right? But that's literally how it happened. We were all working for bigger firms, feeling like our ideas kept getting watered down. So we said screw it, let's do this ourselves. Founded Ignithral Venquinth with more passion than budget, that's for sure.
Landed the Riverside Residences project – 42 units that needed to blend modern living with heritage preservation. Spent countless nights figuring out how to make it work. When it won the BC Sustainable Architecture Award, we kinda couldn't believe it. That project put us on the map and proved our approach wasn't just idealistic nonsense.
Hired our first junior architects and moved to West Georgia Street. Finally had enough space where we weren't sitting on top of each other. Brought in specialists for urban planning and interior design – turned out trying to do everything ourselves wasn't the smartest move. Who knew?
Got approached for the Downtown Eastside revitalization project. It was intimidating as hell – dealing with city planning, community concerns, heritage preservation, all while trying to create something that actually improved people's lives. Launched our dedicated urban planning division because we realized this was where we could make the biggest impact.
Yeah, that year. Like everyone else, we had to rethink everything. But it pushed us to focus harder on sustainable solutions and flexible spaces. Turns out people really cared about how buildings impacted health and environment. Added remote collaboration tools that actually made us more efficient. Silver linings and all that.
Completed the Granville Heritage Building restoration – probably our most challenging project to date. Balancing modern safety standards with preserving 1920s character? Not for the faint of heart. But man, when we finally got it right, seeing that building come back to life... that's why we do this.
Got featured in Architectural Digest for our work on net-zero commercial buildings. Started getting calls from developers across Canada wanting sustainable solutions. Team's now 25 people strong. Still feels surreal sometimes when we look back at those napkin sketches from 2012.
Currently juggling 15 active projects – residential, commercial, urban planning, you name it. Just launched our mentorship program for young architects because we remember how hard it was starting out. Looking ahead, we're exploring mass timber construction and bio-based materials. The journey's far from over, and honestly? That's exactly how we like it.
We don't pretend to have all the answers. Sometimes the best solution comes from admitting we need to try something different.
Not because it's trendy, but because we've got kids who'll inherit whatever we build today. That responsibility keeps us honest.
Best ideas come from the weirdest places. We learned to listen – to clients, communities, even the intern who just joined last week.
Doesn't always mean high-tech gadgets. Sometimes it's finding creative ways to use traditional materials or rethinking basic layouts.
We're always up for interesting projects and conversations. Even if you're just exploring ideas – let's grab coffee and chat.
